Gettin to that time again y'all. I've been having halloween costume blues for the third year in a row. Last year I attempted to go as Princess Mononoke which meant I had to make most of the costume myself and after failing miserably in a few key areas gave up and wound up putting together some weird crap from my collection of wigs and random costume items at the last minute. The result was dubbed Squalleroth by my friends, which is all fine and good but I'm thinking I'll go as an ACTUAL character this year rather then some weird hybrid.
Originally I was going to try to do Princess Mononoke again since I still have most of the costume, but my guess is there was a 75% chance I'd fail in the same areas a second time. Then my friend Sean mentioned coming over to pass out candy with his family, who always do a theme (This year it's super heroes) which sounded awsome. Only problem is I can't stand most of the gal super heroes. I thought about going as Harley Quinn, which sounds great in theory until I looked into how to get together her costume. The pre made ones are ugly as sin. I found one custom one that isn't too bad, but it'd cost me over a hundred dollars and because of the make of her costume I do not think I could find the items myself. So, after disgarding that idea I looked into a few of the super heroines I didn't hate as much like Raven and Rogue, but I'd run into the same problems with both, mainly in expenses and if I could find a dark blue hooded cloak that looked good for a decent price, believe me, I'd already have it.
For a little while I seriously considered just buying the Silk Specter costume from Watchmen because it was affordable and looked pretty nice and the wig would have been a snap (If I don't already have it I could easily find it for pretty cheap) but as much as I love Watchmen I really really really hate Laurie. I hate her so much in both the comic book and the movie.
So I guess superheroes are out then
Sooooo...I was out of ideas and figuring that Squalleroth was going to make a comeback whether I liked it or not when something occured to me this morning and this is partially thanks to a friend of mine who borrowed all of the dvds from me, partially because of all of the cosplay websites I visited while searching for Harley Quinn and partially because I recently started watching the episodes again, but you know who would be really fun and really easy to dress up as and would allow me to wear goggles? Ed from Cowboy Bebop. I'm not sure why I didn't think of her before. So, now all I have to worry about is dressing up as a character who wears shorts, a cut off top and bare feet in late October.
